Hi! I’m Kristen. As soon as I learned to read as a child, I wanted to write. I loved the way words could be woven to create a place, a time, a character, or an experience. I loved the way a good writer could fill your mind with thoughts and pictures and ideas. And I loved that all I had to do was put a pen to paper to make that happen. My first story was about a princess who saw an alligator and nobody believed her. I’m pretty sure there was some magic in there, too. The plot wasn’t terribly compelling, I now realize, but nevertheless, I was hooked.
Now, I spend my days writing and editing content for online media (mostly at Vetstreet and Fit Bottomed Girls, but occasionally you’ll find me elsewhere, too), which I absolutely love. When I’m not shooing the cat, Trixie, off my desk so I can meet deadlines, you can find me playing (or, likely as not, cuddling) with the dogs, Rudi and Hollie, or having a drink with my husband, Jared. We live in a cute house in a sweet little suburb in Florida. No, I don’t think we’ll be here forever, but I’m not sure where the next place we call home will be.
I’m originally from Michigan, but I’ve lived in the south long enough to use y’all without thinking and make folks up north think I’m officially southern. However, that can of carbonated beverage? That’s pop. I’ll never tell say, “I’m fixin’ to ___,” unless I’m joking. Or have had way, way too much to drink. And every once in a while, especially when I’m talking to friends from home, I can sound like a full-on Michigander. Or so I’m told.
I’ve had previous lives working as a salesperson in a bridal shop, a d.j., a camp counselor, and an office nazi. When I think back to some of those experiences, I realize it’s no surprise I enjoy working from home (and not only because the virtual office dress code doesn’t require pantyhose. Or, you know, pants, for that matter). I’m an INFJ, and if you know what that means, I will talk about the Myers Briggs stuff with you for hours. (But, you know, via email, because I’m an I.)
I like cheesy rap music from the ’80s and ’90s, handwritten notes, puppy breath, crossing finish lines, making lists, planning vacations (also taking them, but I really do love the planning), drinks served in stemware, being outside in beautiful weather, and laughing.
I don’t like people who don’t think rules apply to them, clothes with transparent panels (when will that trend DIE already?), things that are sticky, horror movies, and meat.
And, I have a few big fears: heights, clowns, sharks, and driving things that aren’t cars (no THANK YOU, go-karts). Also, snakes. But spiders are totally cool.
Thanks for coming by! If there’s anything else you’d like to know, you’re welcome to shoot me an email at kgseymour (at) gmail.com. You might learn a few things about me from my Life List, too. You know, if you have nothing better to do.
